what’s on our ipods these days? tiempo libre, the first authentic all-cuban timba band in the states. each (young, hot) member of this two-time grammy-nominated miami-based band septet was classically trained at la ena, cuba’s premiere conservatory, back when american music was banned on cuban radio. featuring members of manolín and el médico de la salsa, this supergroup’s now-legendary high energy, rollicking live performances feature highly danceable latin jazz that brings a new voice to the strong tradition of cuban music. their newest album bach in havana on sony is a unique and very catchy blend of bach and afro-cuban rhythms. check it out at tiempolibremusic.com.
